Colombia’s Boyacá Department never fails to surprise: here we visit the remote Cañon de La Hondura and Manto de La Virgen waterfall. It’s close to the small town of Gámbita, and reachable from Villa de Leyva or Paipa over dirt roads.

Manto de La Virgen (Virgin’s Cape) waterfall crashes through the thick vegetation close to La Hondura Canyon.
The hike to the viewpoint (mirador) of Cañon de La Hondura takes an hour and crosses high ground.
Cañon de La Hondura is between Gámbita and Paipa, and most easil accessed from Bogota via Tunja and Paipa (5 hours, 230kms). It can also be reached from Villa de Leyva on two unpaved roads, see map above.
Wikiloc map of the trail, the walk and back to the viewpoint is 4.5 kms and climbs 400 metres, passing by the Manto de La Virgen waterfall.
The trail starts at a car park and shop 8kms east of Gámbita on the Paipa road. The walk can be muddy and steep, take good boots.
